At the DHL UK Foundation, we are committed to delivering meaningful opportunities for young people and understanding the difference those opportunities make. As part of our 2025-2030 strategy, we introduced a new monitoring and evaluation framework to measure the impact of our GoTeach programme in schools, delivered through our partnerships with Lift Schools and The Talent Foundry.
The first year of evaluation has provided us with valuable evidence that GoTeach is helping young people develop employability skills, increase their awareness of careers and roles, and build confidence in their future. With our monitoring and evaluation framework, we are able to understand our impact, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure the programme continues to meet the needs of young people.
Measuring What Matters
GoTeach was designed around three core outcomes:
With our GoTeach partners, we designed a structured employability programme where every young person would receive three interventions. We collected self-assessed surveys from 917 young people across the UK who took part. The findings demonstrate that the programme is making a positive difference across all three areas.
Helping Young People Build Employability Skills
Developing the skills needed for the workplace was identified as one of the strongest areas of impact.
Across the programme, 87% of participating young people reported an increased understanding and development of employability skills and how these skills can be applied in the workplace.
Using the Skills Builder Framework, participants demonstrated growth across a range of essential skills, particularly in areas such as teamwork, problem solving, adaptability and planning.
These are skills that underpin future success, whether a young person chooses employment, apprenticeships, further education or training. By engaging directly with employers and workplace-based activities, participants were able to see these skills in action and understand their value beyond the classroom.
Expanding Awareness of Careers and Opportunities
A key aim of GoTeach is to help young people gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them.
Our evaluation found that 73% of participants reported increased awareness and understanding of careers, and a greater understanding of the logistics sector, following their involvement in the programme.
For many young people, employer engagement provides an important opportunity to explore career pathways they may not have previously considered. Feedback showed that participants particularly valued learning about the variety of roles available within the Logistics Sector and gaining a better understanding of the skills employers look for.
This increased awareness is an important first step in helping young people make informed decisions about their futures and widening their aspirations.
Building Confidence for the Future
Against a backdrop of evolving societal challenges, it’s important that young people feel empowered to take positive steps to shape their future.
Encouragingly, our evaluation found that 77% of participants reported increased confidence about their future after taking part in GoTeach.
This highlights GoTeach’s contribution to building confidence in the next generation, particularly for those who face barriers to employment and may have had limited exposure to the world of work.
The Difference DHL Volunteers Make
Direct engagement with DHL employees and workplaces was consistently highlighted as a valuable part of the programme experience.
Across the evaluation:
Through interactions with volunteers, students gained authentic insights into the world of work, helping them better understand career pathways, recruitment expectations and the practical application of workplace skills.
Feedback from volunteers was equally positive, with a clear recognition of the value of practical and collaborative activities.
As we move forward into the second year of the new programme, we will continue to use learning and evidence to strengthen GoTeach, working with partners to maximise the programme’s impact and support even more young people on their journey into education, training and employment.
