What is Helping Hands?

Helping Hands is a benevolent fund run by the Foundation to help DHL colleagues and pensioners in need. Applications are welcome from colleagues across all of the DHL business in the UK, and all support is provided in the strictest confidence.

Food vouchers

If you are struggling to make ends meet, we can help ease the burden by making sure you can still buy the essentials.

Financial difficulty

During times of hardship, if you are being threatened with eviction or service cut-off we can help by settling rent or utilities debts.

Funeral costs

If you have lost a loved one, we can help support you through this difficult time by contributing towards funeral costs.

Here when you need support

Helping Hands is a Foundation-funded programme intended to provide assistance in times of hardship. The application form should be considered carefully and completed as fully as possible. It is important that the information provided is accurate and gives a true account of your situation.

  • Current employees of DHL UK (who have passed their probation period)
  • Retired employees of DHL, Exel or Ocean
  • Those in receipt of a DHL, Exel or Ocean pension (and their dependents)

The application form should be considered carefully and completed as fully as possible. It is important that the information provided is accurate and a true account of your application. You will be asked to provide evidence of your income (i.e. payslips) and any arrears or debts (i.e. credit card statements and loan agreements).

Where appropriate we may contact your Line Manager, Human Resources or pensions department depending on your circumstances.

We aim to process each new application in 2-3 weeks from the date it is received. Please get in touch if you haven’t heard from us in this time.

The maximum award for each application is £700 or, in the case of funeral costs, up to £2,500. Support will be awarded as goods, vouchers or payments directly to a landlord or service provider. Please note that we are unable to provide cash donations.

If your application is successful, you will be provided with goods or vouchers as a grant, which will become your property in their entirety. Any items purchased will be yours and you will not be required to repay anything.

You may apply more than once, however repeat requests within one year will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

The DHL UK Foundation are able to provide supportive grants in the form of supermarket vouchers, to purchase essential white goods and furniture and to make payments directly to creditors. We are unable to provide cash donations or loans.
