City Year UK

The DHL UK Foundation is supporting youth social action charity, City Year UK. The charity challenges 18 to 25-year-olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time voluntary service. As mentors, tutors and role models in schools, they support pupils growing up in some of the most disadvantaged communities in the UK.

The City Year UK experience empowers these exceptional and diverse young people to realise their aspirations and grow as leaders, both through their impact on children’s lives and through training, coaching and career development opportunities.

The DHL UK Foundation and City Year UK both believe in the power of young people and are working together throughout the 2017/18 academic year to empower the exceptional and diverse young volunteers who take part in the City Year UK programme.

Support from the DHL UK Foundation

The partnership with City Year UK aligns to the DHL UK Foundation’s commitment to the education and employability of young people in the UK. Throughout 2017/18 the DHL UK Foundation will be working with City Year UK to support the work of the charity in London, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands. DHL employees across the UK will be helping to support City Year UK’s young volunteers successfully secure employment or progress to higher education after their year of service.

There are lots of ways of supporting the partnership:

  • Bridge Builder mentoring programme – DHL employees are mentoring City Year UK young volunteers in the West Midlands as part of a 10 month programme, providing advice and guidance as they progress through their journey with City Year UK and transition into further employment or education.
  • Interview Skills Day – DHL employees will be delivering ‘mock’ interviews to City Year UK volunteers to help them prepare for the first real interviews following our programme. Interviews will take place in London, the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.
  • Learning from Leaders – Senior leaders from across DHL will be taking part in panel session for City Year UK providing inspiring talks to the young people on their careers and life experiences.
