Outward Bound invites young people to come on an adventure and through their adventure to learn skills and confidence to take back to home and school. Now the DHL UK Foundation is looking for thirty DHL mentors to step out of their comfort zone and join the young people on their journey. Acting as a volunteer mentor, they will work alongside the Outward Bound Instructors to provide support and encouragement.
Mentors commit to raise £500 each to contribute to The Outward Bound Trust's General Bursary Fund and to attend a training day ahead of the October one week course. The programme allows for all levels of fitness and you need both enthusiasm and a genuine interest in young people's development.
The Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity that uses outdoor experiences and challenges to help and develop young people. The Foundation has been a member of The Outward Bound Trust's Corporate Network, The Patron's Company, since 1998. The DHL programme supports up to 300 disadvantaged young people, aged 13-15, from schools in a number of DHL's business locations, with bursaries to attend an Outward Bound course.
The Foundation has given Outward Bound a grant to develop a series of excellent environmental posters, for use in classrooms and at the outdoor centres. An example can be seen below, but be warned as it is designed to be printed A2 the file size is large and will take a time to download. You may find the others on the Outward Bound website at the following address: http://www.theoutwardboundtrust.org.uk/education/teachers-pack/login.html.
