H FACTOR WINNERS REVEALED FOR 2010

On 21st May, over one hundred winners, nominees, judges, charity representatives and community workers joined to congratulate a group of very special DHL employees.  They came from all around the UK and besides working for DHL, the one thing they had in common was a bucket load of H Factor.  These were the winners of the 2010 DHL UK Foundation Community Heroes awards and they are:

In its second year, the Community Heroes Awards simply wish to recognise the fantastic voluntary work taking place behind the scenes the length and breadth of the country.  Unseen, an army of volunteers is fundraising and working for charity and community groups.  These awards recognise their contribution, both in time and money, and the difference these heroes make to their chosen cause.

Terry Searle won an award in 2009  He is Chair of the National Youth Bowling Club and explains what the award meant to him, "We used the prize money to hold a child protection workshop and help train a child protection officer, who in turn will train other volunteers with child protection responsibility in clubs around the country. The award helped raise awareness of the Foundation's work among my DHL colleagues and a number have applied to have their activities matched through Match It! as a result."

Commenting on this year's entries Sarah Nancollas, a Foundation trustee who sat on the judging panel said, "Judging was almost an impossible task.  We were humbled by the passion and commitment that employees put into their volunteering and fundraising.  Whatever the personal trigger for involvement, people's energy and enthusiasm takes them forward and they end up making a really valuable contribution to their chosen organisation."

The winners received £600 for their nominated charity and runners up in each category got to give £250 to their cause.
