OVERSEAS
Though the Foundation concentrates its efforts in the UK, it continues to fund and support a small number of established projects overseas in Africa, Turkey and Asia.
Tsunami relief
The main programme is continued Tsunami relief in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Following the disaster in 2004, £350,000 was raised or donated by the staff, company and Foundation. In India work has been carried out to improve the quality of education and teaching in the cluster of Pudupattinam schools and Nagapattinam Municipal Girls Secondary school. During 2009 new science laboratories have been built in Nagapattinam, significantly improving facilities at the school.
In Indonesia four school libraries were funded. In Sri Lanka a computer laboratory has been donated. Regular follow up visits take place to ensure all is well.

CATOM
In many parts of Turkey children continue to be kept from school because of economic and social reasons, and this is especially true for girls. The CATOM scholarship project in Turkey supports girls in continuing their schooling. DHL UK Foundation support helps 42 students, of whom 8 are disabled, through provision of a scholarship to attend full time education.

South Africa - Khulisa
A grant was made during the year to Khulisa which continues to fund three Ubuntu clubs to be run in Tembisa. Ubuntu is a concept focussing on people's relationships with others rather than on their own interests as an individual. In the Ubuntu clubs, led by trained facilitators, and sometimes by ex offenders, young people explore the meaning of Ubuntu in their lives, learn non-violent conflict resolution skills, as well as how to avoid peer pressure in relation to alcohol and drug abuse, sexual activity and crime.

Education Development Support Scheme (EDSS)
EDSS provides financial support to enable the children of employees in African countries and Turkey below a particular income threshold, to attend school. Otherwise the families in question would not have had sufficient funds for their child to receive an education. In 2008-09 this programme was extended into Tanzania, Uganda and Nigeria as well as continuing to run in South Africa, Kenya and Turkey. All monies are paid direct to the schools and in 2009-10, the programme will extend further to Ghana.
